Comer Cadet W60 Regulations The following amendment needs to be made to Page 6 of the Kart Race Year Book, A1.4, replacing the sentence beginning engine lubricant: Engine lubricant must be a synthetic oil meeting the requirements of the JASO FC standard to ensure that the engine exhaust emissions meet the standards set down by the MSA. 'JASO FC' is to be clearly marked on the lubricant container and is available from the majority of oil product manufacturers. Amendments have also been made to the Rotax Max fiche and copies of the fiche are available from the MSA sales department.
2003 (08) CIK Bodywork Definitions: References to N refer to the 2004 Competitors Yearbook. 08 homologation CIK bodywork is the bodywork homologated for the period 2003 to 2008 (sometimes referred to as "2003 CIK homologated bodywork"). When CIK classes are referenced, this means Formula A, ICA and JICA. Guidance For The Use Of '08' Bodywork 1) Modification of 08 sidepods (all classes). To meet with CIK regulations the 08 homologation sidepods may not be modified except as follows: a) The mounting bars may be shortened and re-drilled in order to reduce the width of the kart. b) Holes of a maximum of M8 diameter may be drilled in the inside and top plastic face for fitments. c) A hole may be drilled for starter access, even if not in use. 2) Clarification of wet conditions when using 08 sidepods. When wet weather tyres are fitted, they may be inside the sidepods except for variants with ends that are not of the closed-off variety (please refer to pictures below).
3) Mixing of bodywork types. N.14.15 Non-CIK Classes: The reference to 2003 CIK homologated bodywork (N14.15) is intended to make reference to the side pods and mounting attachments only. You are permitted to use a non-homologated front Nassau panel and front fairing providing they meet MSA regulations. The side pods and the front fairing may be from different manufacturers. All classes: When using a 08 front fairing that does not meet MSA regulations, CIK regulations will apply and matching homologation fitments must be used. Use of plastic clamps only, without two metal uprights or a metal centre clamping block, on 08 front fairing is not permitted, N.14.13.2 will still apply. When using a CIK 08 front fairing with its front panel then it is permitted for the front panel to protrude beyond the front bumper. CIK Classes: Kart Race Yearbook B.2.3.2, C.1.3.2 & C.3.3.2 is clarified to mean that any 08 bodywork set may be used with any post-2003 homologated kart chassis, so long as the matching 08 homologated fitments are used. 4) Width of sidepods (CIK Classes) The maximum 40mm gap permitted may be measured at the minimum point between the sidepod and the plane of the front to rear wheels/tyres. 5) Transponder fitment: Amend Kart Race Yearbook Appendix 4, Replace F.2 with: "F. 2 The transponder must be fitted in an approximately upright position (i.e. with the R clip to the top), on the back of the seat fitted at a height of 25 cm +/- 5 cm, or on the left side of the kart as follows." Note: Having the transponder on the back of the seat may give a disadvantage across the finishing line. With effect from 1.1.2005 the only acceptable position will be the back of the seat. 6) Kart Race Yearbook, Appendix 4, D.6.2 amendment: Replace the second sentence with : "Lateral bodywork and front fairings must never cut the plane through the top of the front and rear tyres."
Pro Kart engines. Keith Wilkinson has managed to get the MSA to agree to letting NIKA race the 2003 spec engines alongside the new 2004 spec, until the end of the year.
Transponders for sale. The club is selling off a limited number of transponders. They can be obtained at the all day practice on 6th Mar 2004 for £60. A car and mains charger will be included. See Jimmy Davidson on 6th Mar. (Only one transponder per UKC club member allowed)
2004 Kart Regulation Amendments effective 01/01/2004. MSA Kart Race Yearbook 2004. Formula Rotax MiniMax (Page 31) B.4.4.2 Replace with the following (note no inlet restrictor required): "B4.4.2 Restrictors: Exhaust restrictor must be in place at all times. Restrictor must be as supplied by J.A.G. and comply with the official fiche, no modifications allowed. Exhaust flange restrictor, 20.3mm (+0,-0.2mm tolerance) maximum round bore, all exhaust gasses must pass through this restrictor."
TKM Extreme: ABkC have been informed that the new size engine produces up to 18.5 bhp and drivers should typically use three less teeth than before with about 15mm longer exhaust flex. First bore pistons should arrive mid-January, and other bores sometime in February.
Performance & Price Boost for Formula TKM Tal-Ko has announced a raft of changes to the Formula TKM 2-stroke classes which have been at the forefront of British karting for more than a decade and helped develop top racing names like Jenson Button, Anthony Davidson, Robbie Kerr, Carl Breeze and Gareth Howell. There’s a power boost for the seniors, kart updates for all classes, simplification of some rules – and a price decrease for all classes despite a higher level of specification. Says Tal-Ko Racing Managing Director Alan Turney: “We want the classes to remain at the top and have taken these steps to keep Formula TKM in line with latest developments. I am particularly pleased to be able to reduce costs which will make us by far the best value class and especially help those coming into the class.” The biggest change is in the specification of the senior class engine which in future will be known as the Formula TKM Extreme. The engine gets a bore increase which takes it up to around 115cc, with it gaining around 10 per cent power and torque. And the clever bit about the change is that it can all be achieved in a winter-time standard rebuild on an engine costing only around £100. All a driver needs to do is take an engine to be rebuilt at which time it can be re-bored to the new capacity and have a tiny amount of machining to the cylinder head. Any engine tuner can carry out this work, though Tal-Ko will be offering special upgrade packages with the guarantee of original manufacturer quality and precision. The power increase will reduce lap times and because of the extra torque, also help those slightly over the weight limit – which is increased as well. In future all new senior engines will be known as Extreme units and will come in the large bore format – but at a greatly reduced price, now down to £699 plus VAT. Meanwhile the Junior spec engine gets an upgrade with the fitment of a clutch and chain-guard as standard items – and with the price also reduced down to £775 plus VAT. New spec Junior engines will be available November 2003 onwards, the senior Extreme spec units can be ordered now ready for delivery early next year. They can be raced from February onwards. There is no intention that the new Extreme spec engine will form a new class. It is anticipated that very rapidly all drivers will upgrade, though clubs are welcome to split grids in the short term if they feel their mix of drivers needs this. Other changes include a change of kart specification for the new homologation period which includes freeing up of brake disc spec to include vented units, use of twin hole Ackerman style steering, freeing up of stub axles, use of some lighter materials like magnesium and use of cassette type quick release bearings. All this for exactly the same price karts as before at £1195 plus VAT. The latest regulations will allow use of new style CIK type bodywork and mounts so long as they meet MSA regulations. Aside from this there is a revision of all weights which change as follows to allow use of the new style sidepods and also to help those drivers on the edge of the weight limits in the face of a general increase in driver size. New weights are: Juniors 127 Kgs Adds Alan Turney: “We have been able to achieve the price cuts as a result of economy of scale. We want to help and encourage drivers and aside from adding to the appeal of the class we make the whole package more manageable overall.” Further info can be found at www.tal-ko.com
In Junior Rotax UK the tyres will change to Vega SL8 and Vega W2 in 2004. |
